Vietnam Explores Sustainable Aviation Fuel Development at International Conference in Hanoi

GCGF, together with the Vietnam Academy of Construction Strategy and Cadres Training under the Ministry of Construction, convened the International Conference on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): Policy Frameworks and Market Development in ASEAN in Hanoi on 25 June 2026. Supported by the Asia Pacific Sustainable Aviation Centre (APSAC), the conference brought together government agencies, aviation regulators, airlines, fuel suppliers, technology developers and international organisations to contribute to Vietnam's exploration of sustainable aviation fuel development.

Opening the conference, Vice Minister Le Anh Tuan of the Ministry of Construction highlighted the growing importance of SAF in supporting aviation decarbonisation and reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. He noted that SAF development should be pursued through a roadmap tailored to Vietnam’s circumstances, balancing emissions reduction, energy security and business competitiveness.

The programme featured regional perspectives from ICAO, civil aviation authorities across Southeast Asia, and industry leaders including Vietnam Airlines, Airbus, Boeing, SAFCo, Taiyo Oil and LanzaTech. Discussions focused on the policy frameworks, certification requirements, commercial models, technology pathways and supply chain considerations needed to support SAF deployment across Asia-Pacific.

For Vietnam, the discussions extended beyond aviation decarbonisation to examine opportunities across the broader SAF value chain, including feedstock production, refining capacity, infrastructure investment and regional supply chains. Participants also explored the policy and market conditions needed to support long-term industry development as Vietnam evaluates future SAF pathways.

The conference marks another milestone in GCGF's collaboration with the Ministry of Construction following the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year, supporting knowledge exchange and regional cooperation as Vietnam evaluates future sustainable aviation fuel development.
